Borussia Dortmund have been crowned Bundesliga champions for the first time since 2002 after their 2-0 home win against 1. FC Nürnberg coincided with defeat for second-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Top of the table since early November, Jürgen Klopp's men were two goals to the good by the break thanks to Lucas Barrios and Robert Lewandowski. Leverkusen had to win to keep their hopes alive but succumbed 2-0 at 1. FC Köln, Milivoje Novakovič scoring both goals in the second half.

Elsewhere, 1. FSV Mainz 05 look safe in fifth with two games remaining after a 3-0 defeat of third-bottom Eintracht Frankfurt, who had Sebastian Rode (43) sent off. Mainz are five points clear of Nürnberg and four shy of FC Bayern München, who can move above Hannover 96 into third with a win against FC Schalke 04 in the 18.30CET kick-off.

Hannover came unstuck against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach, who boosted their survival chances with a 1-0 triumph. Lucien Favre's team are two points adrift of Eintracht in the relegation-promotion play-off place and three behind VfL Wolfsburg.

Papiss Demba Cissé's double, meanwhile, earned SC Freiburg a 2-0 victory at Hamburger SV and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim lost 2-1 at home to VfB Stuttgart.

Dominant United too strong for SchalkeWayne Rooney is congratulated after scoring United's second

Sir Alex Ferguson was full of praise for the brilliance of his Manchester United FC team and Manuel Neuer, without whom FC Schalke 04 would have lost by an even greater margin.

Despite his own standout goalkeeping display against Manchester United FC, Manuel Neuer was saddened by FC Schalke 04's 2-0 home loss, saying: "We were always a step behind".

Wayne Rooney did his best to keep his focus after scoring in Manchester United FC's 2-0 first-leg win at FC Schalke 04, but told UEFA.com: "It would be great if we could get to play a final at Wembley."

Real Madrid CF 0-2 FC Barcelona
Lionel Messi scored twice in the last 15 minutes, the second a fabulous solo effort, to put the visitors in command after Madrid's Pepe had been sent off.

Josep Guardiola has told FC Barcelona they are "not at Wembley yet" despite an impressive victory at Real Madrid CF, although the coach paid tribute to his side's controlled display.

Lionel Messi's two goals at the Santiago Bernabéu moved him on to 11 in the competition this season and left the Argentinian in sight of a mark only previously reached by Gerd Müller.

A Lionel Messi double, including a sublime individual effort, helped FC Barcelona secure a two-goal semi-final victory at Real Madrid CF – watch the goals on UEFA.com now.

Champions League rolling blog: 27 AprilCristiano Ronaldo and Javier Mascherano duel for possession during tonight's first leg

With injuries mounting and the Copa del Rey final loss fresh in his mind, FC Barcelona's Josep Guardiola thinks Real Madrid CF will take "the tag of favourites" into their semi-final meeting.

A "beautiful encounter" awaits when Real Madrid CF face FC Barcelona but for Merengues defender Marcelo the emphasis must be on substance over style with Wembley in sight.

FC Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano could fill in at the back against Real Madrid CF due to a growing injury list – and "if the coach is confident" then he is happy to do so.

José Mourinho has been quoting Albert Einstein to inspire his players, a tactic that may be working as Josep Guardiola prepares FC Barcelona to meet a side "in their form of the season".

Ronaldo heads Madrid to Copa del Rey gloryMadrid have won the Copa del Rey for the first time in 18 years

Real Madrid CF were proclaimed Copa del Rey winners for the 18th time after Cristiano Ronaldo's extra-time header settled a tight final against FC Barcelona at Mestalla.

Following a goalless yet intriguing 90 minutes, José Mourinho's side had enough energy to produce the game's defining moment in the opening period of extra time. Ronaldo rose above Adriano to power in Ángel Di María's excellent cross following an exchange of passes with Marcelo on the left.

Prior to that, the closest either team had come arrived when Pepe directed a header against the inside of José Pinto's upright on 43 minutes. Barça − winners of the competition on 25 occasions − enjoyed their best period after the restart, when they were thwarted three times in quick succession by Iker Casillas. The Spain captain denied Lionel Messi, Pedro Rodríguez and, finally, Andrés Iniesta with a spectacular tip around the post.

At the other end, Pinto's save from Di María's goal-bound shot sent the showpiece into extra time, where the Argentina winger was sent off for a second booking late on. The dismissal mattered little for Madrid held on to win the trophy for the first time since 1993.
